Have
you won the lottery?
This
was the most frequently asked question of Cass Grange when she and
her husband quit their jobs to travel for a year. The questions
and comments made Cass realize that most people don't have enough
money saved for a week without pay, let alone a year of travel in
the South Pacific.
“Being
able to save and invest for such an experience was exhilarating
and intellectually fun. I enjoyed the details. I found myself encouraging
others to think consciously about their lifestyles and what they
want to accomplish.” Her passion for goal planning and personal
finance led her to a career in personal financial planning.
“I
feel that all my experiences have helped me become a better planner,”
says Cass. “Now that I have two sons of my own I appreciate the
financial realities of parenting.” Cass says that her seven years
of working in higher education fund raising has helped her discuss
charitable giving with clients. “There is nothing more fulfilling
than to help people, not only retire and have money to leave to
their children, but to leave money to a favorite charity,” said
Cass.
Cass
joined Lucien, Stirling & Gray in 1995 after working for St.
Edward's University as the director of major gifts. She has an MBA
in business communications from the University of St. Thomas, in
St. Paul, Minnesota and a degree in journalism from the University
of Nebraska. Cass holds the NASD series 6, 63 and 66 as well as
the Group 1 Life, Health & Disability insurance licenses.
She
is a member of the President's Associates at St. Edward's University,
Impact Austin and St. Catherine of Siena Church.
Cass and her husband,
Tom, have been married 20 years and have two sons. “I encourage my
clients to have a balanced life of both work and fun, saving and spending.
I try to do same, and of course, saving does come first!”
