Thomas
G. Twombly
President
twombly@lsggroup.com
In addition to working with a select group of clients, as President
of Lucien, Stirling & Gray, Thomas is primarily responsible for
the supervision and training of all the firm’s registered representatives
and associates. He is also responsible for overseeing the firm's
long-term business development and marketing strategies.
"I consider myself to be a very lucky man," Thomas says. "I have
managed to find colleagues who are highly gifted in different areas.
We all work well together because our greatest individual talents
are complementary. We cover a great deal of ground together without
stepping on each other's toes."
Thomas is largely responsible for perpetuating the philosophy of "diverse
talent and similar core beliefs" that has shaped the firm as it has
grown. He states, "It has always been my goal to build a team of
great people, with different and complementary skills. I am very
proud to be surrounded by excellent professionals who are also downright
good people. I enjoy everyone I work with, and I happily introduce
everybody in this firm to our most important clients. Honestly, I
can't say that for other firms I have known. It is one of the things
that sets us apart."
As Lucien, Stirling & Gray grows, Thomas is intent on making
sure that the firm focuses on constant professional improvement,
while retaining its pleasant, collegial atmosphere. "So many financial
organizations today lose sight of the fact that, behind the numbers,
and the returns, and the investments, we are ultimately dealing with
our clients' deepest hopes and fears. Technical expertise is important,
but it can never replace the kind of interaction that takes place
in a close-up, one-to-one relationship of trust. If our clients are
to get this from our associates, our associates must first get it
from this firm - this I firmly believe."
Thomas grew up in Austin, the oldest of four children. He graduated
from St. Stephen's Episcopal School in 1979, and received his B.A.
from Amherst College in 1984. He received his securities and insurance
licenses in September of 1984, and has held a principals license
since 1986. He is married and has a son and a daughter, and two stepsons.
Thomas also has an active life away from the office. He is a member
of the Board of Trustees of St. Stephen's Episcopal School, and
is the current President of the St. Stephen's Alumni Association.
From 1993-1998 he served as President of the 2300-member Austin
Men's Soccer Association. He is still an active player. From 1999-2005
he served on the Board of the Austin Parks Foundation, and presided
as President during 2000-2001. He is also a member of the Financial
Planning Association.
